Fraunhofer "Lab 2020" – Online Trendstudy 2007
“Lab 2020” is a conjoint research project initiated by the Fraunhofer Institutes for Industrial Engineering IAO and for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB both located in Stuttgart, Germany. “Lab 2020” aims at building a basis for improving the quality of use and efficiency of lab environments. The project also aims at improving the well being of people working in lab environments and fostering the overall capability to innovate in lab based research. The work environment is surveyed under process-related, architectural, workplace as well as technology and service aspects - all being important factors to optimize lab work.
To find out about trends and important factors in lab design it is necessary to gain first hand information from lab users. The European Trendstudy is directed at lab managers, researchers and technicians in life science laboratories (biotech, pharmaceutical labs, etc.). It is already the second study focussing on workstyles and work design in laboratories in the framework of "Lab 2020" - this time adressing lab personnel in Europe.
