Dursan® - Bio-inert coating for Medical Equipment for the prevention of unwanted Protein sticking

Share:

Dursan® is a CVD-coating of intermolecularly-bonded silicon, carbon and oxygen atoms that creates a chemically inert, hydrophobic, anti-adhesive and corrosion resistant surface.

Prevention of biofouling and carryover effects

Dursan® coated parts prevent chemical interaction with the underlying substrate. Because of the coating's low surface energy proteins from biofluids such as blood won't stick to the surface. This increases the efficiency, accuracy and lifetime of equipment by reducing biofouling, bioaccumulation and carryover issues.

Our patented CVD-coating process creates a homogenous layer, less than 2000 nanometer that binds molecularly to the base substrates of stainless steel, glass and ceramic. Vapor deposition allows the coating to penetrate highly complex geometries and the smallest holes. Furthermore, Dursan's flexibility makes bending possible without damaging the coating (e.g. coated capillary tubes).

A recent study by Abbott Laboratories showed that a wash solution with non-ionic surfactant removed all residual BSA proteins from a Dursan® coated sensor surface while the same wash solution had no effect on Protein loading on bare stainless steel [1].
